El Chaltén + Lago del Desierto tour begins when we pick you up from your hotel in El Calafate at 7:30 a.m. to head towards the mythical Route 40 in the direction of El Chaltén. This route borders the Argentine Lake, it crosses the Santa Cruz River and La Leona River.
We continue bordering Lake Viedma, with the Andes Mountain Range in the background and, before reaching El Chaltén, a stop will be made at the viewpoint of the Viedma Glacier.
From here you can see a beautiful panoramic view of the Viedma Glacier, the Andes Mountain Range and the emblematic Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. After 3 hours of travel and 220 km, we will arrive at the mountain village of El Chaltén.
In the center of Chaltén, you change vehicles and then travel 37 km through the Cañadón del Río Las Vueltas towards Lago Del Desierto along a gravel road surrounded by a forest.
Along the way, stops will be made at panoramic points that allow you to enjoy views of the Cerros Fitz Roy and Torre among others.
Arriving at Lago del Desierto, we will embark to sail for 1 hour (round trip). We will disembark to trek to the Vespignani Glacier. We will visit the nature reserve for 2 hours and can choose one of the three trails with different levels of difficulty.
Around 3:30 p.m. begins the return to El Chaltén, where we will be received again by the guide, to then go to El Calafate, where we will arrive at 8:00 p.m. ending the excursion.
